David Baum

David Baum is an experienced general partner with 31 years in the information technology industry, including twenty one years in technology finance and ten years in entrepreneurial operating management roles.

As an entrepreneur, David founded two companies including Pensoft Corporation, a venture-backed (Mohr Davidow, IVP, and Bay Partners) mobile communications company that was sold to AT&T in 1994.

David was a key principal that raised, launched, staffed, and managed Prism Ventures. During his tenure at Prism, the firm grew from zero to over $1.25B under management. Investments include Softricity (Microsoft), Network24 Communications (Akamai), DotBank (Yahoo), Altaworks (Opnet), Integral Access (Telco Systems), Syncra Systems (Retek), Salesnet (RightNow) and Bitfone (HP).

In January of 2006, David launched Stage 1 Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm. In June of 2010, David launched Stage 1 Growth Fund, LLC, a later stage secondary/growth equity investment vehicle. S1GF made its first investment into YMAX, Corp, a leading CLEC/VOIP provider in North America and creators of the MagicJack-branded consumer service offering. YMAX went public later in 2010 by purchasing VocalTec, a leading softswitch provider.

David holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School with second year honors and BS in Computer Science from Drexel University where he graduated first in his science class.

Scott Shaw

Scott is a serial entrepreneur in restaurants, retail and software. From 2000 to 2015 he served as Founder & CEO of Fishbowl, a venture-backed marketing and analytics company sold to STG partners.

Prior to Fishbowl he spent 17 years with three successful start-up restaurant companies. He was co-founder and President of Amy’s Ice Creams, based in Austin, Texas; Partner & COO of CAFÉ TU TU TANGO, a Nation’s Restaurant News “Hot Concepts” award-winner; and Partner & COO of the Austin Grills, an award-winning seven-unit chain based in Washington, DC.  In 2015 he co-founded Alexandria Restaurant Partners which now owns 8 unique full-service concepts. Scott is also the founder of ALX Community, a co-working company. 

Scott is a resident of Alexandria and serves on the boards of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and the Alexandria Seaport Foundation. Scott received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University with a major in Latin American Studies.
